Video conferencing/interviewing for recruitment can save money and help recruiters find the right candidates faster.  It’s also a way to go “green.”

Video interviewing adds the benefits of face-to-face interviews to phone interviews.  Save on travel by avoiding mileage and airfare reimbursement.  Some services allow you to record the candidate’s answers.  This allows the interviewer to share the interview with others in the organization. Wikipedia has info on online interviewing too.

Here’s a list of Video conferencing/interviewing options: (you will need a webcam, consider reading How to use a Webcam.)

Before you ever spend time with a candidate, would you like to SEE a candidate answer questions? At the NACE conference in New Orleans, InterviewStream demonstrated their solution that helps recruiters create custom interview questions that candidates record answers to by webcam. InterviewStream also has many recorded answers to standard/common recruitment questions. This service takes phone screening to a new level. At their leisure recruiters can view a candidate’s answers to a custom list of questions. Viewing a video of a candidate provides more insight into a candidate’s communication style and poise–aspects that can’t be conveyed in a resume.

InterviewStream also allows candidates to prepare for what can sometimes be difficult and stressed-filled interviews. Candidates can practice and reshoot their answers; this practice helps them provide better answers. Preparation for an interview is always recommended, however some recruiters might feel the answers are too scripted or practiced. InterviewStream is part of the screening process, so during live interview recruiter and hiring managers can evaluate candidates without second takes. Live webcam interviews are possible too.

InterviewStream helps candidates reduce their use of filler words: Umm , Like , I mean , You know, etc… . That makes for better conversation anywhere, you know what I mean!!!!

Here are the two co-founders in a video demonstrating the service.

Other video interviewing companies include InterviewOnDemand.com and livehire.com. Jobirn.com, more of a referral network, also uses video conferencing in there service.
